Antique door restoration with faux marble decoration

During my university studies and numerous exams in Art History and Restoration Theory, I developed a sensitivity and a great respect towards the artifacts of the past which guide me during all the phases of the intervention I am called to perform. According to what I have learned, also in the field, I analyze from time to time the state of conservation of paintings and decorations and then choose the intervention mode, always being the least invasive possible and always reversible, able to preserve the original decoration and never alterating it. This painting had many gaps and issues, some of which were very extensive, and which covered the entire surface. The first phase was to clean and subsequently grout the gaps. Subsequently I intervened with the pictorial compensation of the gaps using the reversible colors to imitate the existing decoration, in order to give continuity to the design and not compromise its legibility.
